Choosing the right paddle can be confusing as there is a wide range available. If you intend to specialise in one particular aspect of canoeing/kayaking please ask our staff, they will show you the paddles specially designed for that purpose. Otherwise a general purpose conventional paddle will be suitable for most paddling activities. Paddle shapes and designs have undergone some radical changes. The flattish conventional paddle blade, which has been around for years, is still the most popular for recreational paddlers, general white water paddlers and sea kayakers. This blade is also the best shape to learn all the basic strokes.

The racing disciplines however, prefer the propeller/wing shaped paddle. These blades have a distinct curved wing appearance with a lip running the length of the front blade. If you want a strong paddle just to get started or for your fleet of kayaks this is a great choice. This no frills paddle can take all the knocks.

This four part breakdown paddle is the answer to the problems of storing your spare breakdown paddle in small boats.

Shaft Stiffness. Epic shafts are matched to the intended use of your paddle. Epic paddles feature a true oval shaft. Epic shafts are built in an oval shape, rather than post formed from a stock round shaft which compromises the strength. Green Hybrid - our most durable shaft utilizes a combination of fiberglass and carbon fiber and is standard on all Hybrid, Signature Hybrid and Reinforced Carbon paddles. Burgundy Carbon - our lightest shaft has medium flex and is standard on all Full and Ultra Carbon touring paddles. The medium flex makes this shaft not as durable. Blue Carbon - our stiffest shaft is used for Full Carbon wing paddles.

A 2000 series propeller blade inserted with a Smart Shaft will give you the flexibility you need. The paddle can be broken down into two parts, and the shaft can be extended 10cm for those times you need a longer paddle. The Smart Shaft also allows you to off-set the blades at any angle.

Not only is the Smart Shaft a great idea, it is very firm when secured and impossible to notice that it is a two part paddle. It only adds 50 grams to the overall weight of the paddle.
