In the 1980s Terry Bolland was actively sea kayaking around the wild and remote areas of the Kimberley on five separate expeditions. At that time there was no reports of any kayaker taking on such a challenge, apart from Paul Caffyn, paddler extraordinaire, who paddled around Australia and was in the Kimberley at the same time as Terry.
Terry’s first two expedition’s, a 100 days solo and a 54 days solo were regarded as such awesome challenges, going places in a kayak where no other kayaker had been.
Expedition 1, 100 days solo. Broome to Mitchell Plateau.
Expedition 2. 54 days solo. Lake Argyle. Wyndham to Mitchell Plateau.
Expedition 3. Drysdale River Descent.
Expedition 4. With Ken Cornish. Derby to Prince Regent River & return to Broome (also retraced George Grey’s 1838 journey).
Expedition 5. 91 days with Ewen MacGregor. Around the Kimberley Marathon. Kayaking 700km, running 445kms, backpacking 420kms and mountain biking 1930kms.
